Lions Fall to Wesley

Lions Fall to Wesley
Dover Del. – The Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team played their second to last game of the season on the road Wednesday February 19th. The lions kept things tight for most of the contest, but in the end suffered a 58-44 loss to the Wesley Wolverine's.

The Lions Rebecca Bailey (Tobyhanna, Pa. / Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg) and Rachel Moyer (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) both scored early helping the Blue and White to start their conference matchup on top.    Wesley responded immediately with a 9-0 run to take an 11-4 lead at the 13:25 mark.  Harrisburg was down, but by no means out of the game.  As the Wolverines stretched their lead to as high as ten; the Lions cut the deficit to just five with a little over three minutes left in the half.

From the first play of the second half, Harrisburg was determined to get back in the lead.   Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. /Palmyra Area) tied the game up just two minutes into the second half at 28-28 with two of her team high ten points.  Unfortunately, this was as close as Harrisburg would get to regain the lead.

The Wolverines slowly increased their lead over the second half period.   The Lions remained within striking distance throughout, but Wesley's 11-2 run in the first part of the second half proved to be too much to overcome in the end.  Harrisburg ended up on the losing end of Wesley for the second time this season.  The 58-44 loss continues to show the strong level from each and every team in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Harrisburg will get one more chance to increase their win total for this year.  They will host Mary Washington Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Capital Union Building in their final contest of the 2013-2014 season.
