MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Harrisburg was more than ready for tonight's contest against the Lancaster Bible Chargers. Not only was it an ever important conference game, but Bible came in with an undefeated record that they would not have the privilege of leaving with as the lions edged out an exciting two point victory.
Lancaster took the lead early scoring the first two buckets and starting the game in stride. Harrisburg then went on a 9-0 run to take back the lead with 13:09 in the first. The game would go back and forth for most of the half with the Chargers taking a 4 point lead going into halftime.
The second half started off a little scary for the lions when Bible took the second biggest lead of the night with 10 points in the first minute. Amanda Moyer (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) scored a strong bucket for Harrisburg that helped change the momentum and sparked a 10-2 run which tied the game at 36-36. Moyer also posted 11 rebounds for a double-double on the night.
Lucky Snypse (Philadelphia, Pa. / George Washington Carver of Engineering and Science), who also registered a double-double, scored eight of her ten points during a second half stretch that helped put the lions ahead by 12 with 9:08 to go in the game. The contest was back and forth all night as both teams fought hard showing they wanted the conference win.
As the game wound down Lancaster slowly worked down their deficit and by the final two minutes we had a true nail biter. The score was 57-55 with only 1:10 to play. Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) showed her poise from the foul line making 3-4 from the line when it mattered most. The score was 60-58 with Lancaster Bible getting the final opportunity to tie or win, but the lions strong team defense held tight and gave the lions the exciting win.
The lady lions gave a true team performance today. They spread the court, moved the ball quickly, and went hard to the basket. Team defense was also a big part of getting the lions to 2-0 in conference play. Harrisburg now shifts its focus to Saturday night when they will face off against Penn State Berks.
