Harrisburg Lady Lions take down tournament host to win first game of the season

Selinsgrove, PA - The Penn State women's basketball team does not look like the same team from the previous year.  One major difference is all the new young faces on this year's squad which is a little different from 2011-2012 season when Coach Patrick took the team all the way to the conference finals with just 7 players.  Saturday night's 65-61 win over Susquehanna definitely came from a multitude of effort and scoring from the well rounded Harrisburg side.

The blue and white had 4 double digit scorers on the night.  Stephanie Yetter (Thompsontown, Pa. / East Juniata), Amanda Moyer (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights), and Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) all scored 10 points or more to help secure their first win of the season.

Moyer and Yetter also earned themselves double-double gathering an additional 10 rebounds for Moyer, while Yetter had the team high 11.

The game went back and forth with opportunities for each school to take their chance to end ahead and get themselves into the Finals of the Pepsi Tip Off tournament being hosted by Susquehanna University.   Susquehanna University took about 10 more total shots than the Lady lions did on the night and both teams finished near the 30% shooting percentage mark.

Harrisburg was (16-54) from inside the arc and (6-24) from outside.  The Crusaders were (27-74) shooting for two and (3-11) from the three point line.  The major determining factor of the game was fouls and free throws.  Susquehanna  finished (4-12) from the free throw line, meanwhile the Lady Lions shot extremely well as a team from the line hitting 27 out of their 36 attempts.

Harrisburg faces off again Sunday at 3:00 in the tournament finals against Ursinus to see who will take home the win and the trophy from this weekend's season opening tournament.
