Buena Vista, Va.- The Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's tennis teams travelled to Southern Viriginia on Saturday march 18th for their first match of the 2017 season. The women fell 6-3 while the men also lost to the Knights 8-1.
Women's Doubles Matches:
-Doubles partners Tina Luo and Sarah Shahriar fought tough against the Knights but fell in the #2 doubles match 8-4
-Sydney Nye and Maria Torre also fell in the #1 doubles match 8-2
Women's Singles Matches:
-Sydney Nye, the top ranked female for Penn State Harrisburg in the singles matches, defeated Kari Stollenwerk in 3 sets. Nye won the first and third set, 7-6 and 7-5. Stollenwerk put up a tough fight in the second set to force the third 8-6
-Maria Torre won the Lion's second singles match 6-2 and 6-4
-Tina Luo also won her singles match against Laura Elko in three sets. Luo won the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set 4-6. Luo clinched her victory in the third with an 11-9 win
Men's Doubles Matches:
-Benjamin Rusling and John Parola 8-6 dropped their doubles match 8-6. Rusling and Parola were able to score 6 points against their opponent, the most of any doubles partners in Saturday's match
Men's Singles Matches:
-Ryan McCurdy grabbed the Lion's only point of the day in his singles match as he went on to beat Colin Bigelow 6-0 and 6-1
