Steph Yetter & Jordan Gatchell Earn Harrisburg’s Student Athlete of Year Award

Middletown, Pa. – Two extremely strong Student Athletes won the award for male and female athlete of the year for the 2012-2013 season at Penn State Harrisburg.  Not to mention that with grade point averages of 3.85 and 3.62 they were more than just superstar athletes and team leaders for their respective teams.

Jordan Gatchell takes the honor of being the Male Athlete of the Year.  In addition to his 3.85 grade point average, he will graduate this spring as a double major in Psychology and Political Science.  On the court, Jordan was a first team NEAC conference selection this past season, leading the league in games started, minutes played and assists to turnover ratio.  He leaves PSH as the all-time leader in wins in school history.  He also leaves PSH as the all-time leader in several statically categories including games played, started, minutes, assist, and steals.  He is also second overall in total points with 1180, three pointers made, free throws mad, and rebounds.  Quite impressive considering he is usually the smallest man on the floor with his 5’ 8” frame.

Jordan was instrumental in bringing the men's basketball program from the basement to the penthouse.  The best example of Jordan's commitment to PSH and his lead by example approach is the story that follows:  Jordan could have graduate last spring with his B.S. in Psychology.  He decided that he would rather stay in school to complete his final year of eligibility and earn an addition degree in Political Science.

Basketball took home both titles this year at Harrisburg thanks four year senior, Steph Yetter’s performance.  Steph completed her third year as co-captain and her efforts on the court allowed her to become the first NCAA 1,000 point scorer in school history, as well as the ALL-TIME leader in points scored with 1,052.  She demonstrated her durability and longevity by starting all 27 games this year, as well as 106 of her 107 career contests.  At this year’s Student-Athlete awards ceremony, Steph received the Coach’s Award and also the Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete award with a 3.62 GPA.  All of these athletic achievements were accomplished while completing her academic requirements of student teaching in the classroom.  Steph is a student-athlete who has helped lay the foundation for our future success as a Women’s Basketball Team and an Athletic Department.  She represents everything that is good about being a 4 year Senior Student-Athlete at Penn State Harrisburg.
