W. Tennis Opens United East Play With Sweep of Penn College

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team reached the .500 mark for the first time this season thanks to an impressive 9-0 sweep of United East foe Penn College in the team's conference opener at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon, April 5. 

 

Doubles action was an indication of what was in store, as the Blue & White took all three matches by a wide margin. Sydney Nye and Breanna DeSantis teamed up for an 8-2 win in the No. 1 contest, while the pairings of Isabella Pizzelanti and Sarah Shaub and Samantha Bogush and Annalisa Petrascu each earned 8-1 victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 matchups, respectively.

 

Penn State Harrisburg carried its strong play into singles competition, with Nye topping Delaney Bouton 6-1, 6-2 in the top solo outing and Bogush earning a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Georgia Macensky in the No. 2 contest. The third pairing saw DeSantis make quick work of Amber Leitzel in a 6-1, 6-0 decision, while Pizzelanti handled Alexis Youse by the same score in the No. 4 matchup. Shaun went over Sostika Ray 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth contest and Petrascu put the finishing touches on the United East victory thanks to a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Kelly Williams in the sixth slot.

 

The Lions will look to build on their recent three-match win streak when they welcome Messiah to the Hoverter Tennis Complex for a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon, April 7.
