Track & Field Returns to Action at Alvernia's Winter Invitational

READING, Pa. - After more than a month layoff, Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's indoor track & field teams returned to action at the Alvernia Winter Invite on Saturday, Jan. 20. 

 

Steph Reider continued the torrid start to her track & field career by breaking the program's all-time record in the weight throw thanks to a top toss of 13.89 meters in the event. She also secured a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a top throw of 9.79 meters. Leah Gray picked up where she left off before the break, earning a runner-up finish in the 60m (7.99 seconds) and a fourth-place finish in the 200m (27.07 seconds).

 

Elsewhere, Mikayla Grace Weber secured a top-10 finish in the 60m hurdles with an jaunt of 10.69 seconds after a 10.53-second mark in prelims, while Katrin Cavanaugh finished seventh in the pole vault with a top effort of 2.85 meters before finishing ninth in the long jump with a top leap of 4.44 meters. In the first meet of her collegiate career, Lauren Hess earned a top-10 finish in the triple jump thanks to a 9.36-meter effort.

 

On the men's side, Comlan Greg Acoliste set a new PR in the weight throw with a toss of 14.52 meters - a mark good enough to earn him a runner-up finish in the event while ranking second all-time in program history. He was joined by Angad Bhullar in the event's top 10 thanks to 13.23-meter throw. 

 

The relay teams impressed as well, with the 4x200m team of Zakareya Aidel, Mathew Morales, Kadin Sodmont, and Mohamed Tall victorious thanks to a time of 1:34.41. The 4x400m foursome of Sodmont, Jeremiah Marsalis, Aidel, and Morales also finished fourth with a combined effort of 3:45.93. Paul Netland III (60m hurdles), Isaac Whitson and Aiden Durante (triple jump), Sodmont (60m), and Oluwa Kinti (shot put) each earned top-10 finishes in their respective events as well. 

 

The Lions will return to action when they make their second trip of the season to Franklin & Marshall for the Mini-Dip Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27.
