Lehman Strikes Gold On Day One of CAC Championships

Day One Results

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field programs were in action on day one of the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Outdoor Championships on the campus of Christopher Newport University on Friday afternoon, May 3, highlighted by Sarah Lehman winning a conference title in the women's triple jump.

For Lehman, the CAC Championship is her second in the event in as many seasons. The sophomore dominated the triple jump, with her top leap of 11.40 meters proving the best bound of all competitors by a margin of .52 meters. In addition to winning gold, she also earned CAC All-Conference First-Team honors in the process. Teammate Rae Rae Taylor took silver in the event thanks to a top jump of 10.88 meters. Thanks to her effort, the sophomore picked up all-conference second-team recognition as well.

Taylor also qualified for the finals of the women's 100m dash (12.93 seconds), 200m dash (26.16 seconds) and the 100m hurdles (15.81 seconds). The reigning CAC Women's Indoor Athlete of the Year will have a chance to add a number of medals to her collection when she competes in the finals of those events on Saturday.

Aiyala McPhee will join Taylor in the finals of the 200m dash thanks to her preliminary run of 25.73 seconds in the event, while Neeyah Turner will also flank Taylor in finals action after posting a time of 16.23 seconds in the 100m hurdles.

On the men's side, it was Dominick Hogans showing off the speed in the 100m dash and 200m dash. The freshman will compete in the finals of each event after his time of 21.68 seconds was the quickest of all competitors in the 200m dash and his jaunt of 10.96 seconds proved the second-fastest effort of all runners in the 100m dash. Jalil Clayton will join Hogans in the finals of the 200m dash thanks to his time of 22.37 seconds.

Clayton set the bar in the prelims of the 110m hurdles, as the senior's mark of 14.88 seconds was the fastest of all runners. Teammate Shammah Gahomera will join him in Saturday's finals after posting the third-quickest time (16.06 seconds) of all competing athletes.

Cameron Yon and Andrew Bomberger turned in medal-winning performances, with Yon's top toss of 47.74 meters clinching bronze in the hammer throw and Bomberger's mark of 4.18 meters securing bronze in the pole vault. Alex White also tallied points for the Blue & White thanks to a top effort of 13.16 meters in the triple jump.

The Lions will wrap up their weekend at the CAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. Day two events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
