How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell by the slimmest of margins in a 1-0 loss at Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Frostburg State in the team's regular-season finale on Wednesday night, Oct. 24.

The Blue & White offense struggled to get going against the Bobcats (5-10-1, 2-3-1 CAC), managing just one shot in the first half and one shot on target on the day.

Frostburg, on the other hand, racked up 10 attempts in the opening 45 minutes, including what proved to be the game winner with 20 minutes left in the first half. After Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Kayla Arnold turned away Hailey Turney in the 24th minute, FSU's Brooke Shehade corralled the rebound and put her shot into the back of the net at the 25-minute mark.

Arnold turned in a solid performance, tallying seven saves in the first half. Thanks to her efforts, the Lions (8-10-1, 2-4 CAC) had a chance to even things up moments after the game's lone goal when Hollie Holthaus got off a shot on frame but Bobcat goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen was there to make the stop.

The second half saw Harrisburg post a number of chances to draw even, with Kaeleigh Smedley putting a pair of corner kicks in play but no look was better than an Eden Haldeman header that hit the crossbar in the 51st minute.

FSU's defense dug in down the stretch and held the visitors without a shot in the final 20 minutes to escape with the narrow victory.
