Harrisburg Ends Penn College Perfect Start

The Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team traveled to face off against an undefeated Penn College team on Wednesday September 19th.  The Wildcats came into the game with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Lions won three straight the previous week.  Both teams were hungry for another win and the intensity of the contest went for the full 90 minutes.

Harrisburg started the game strong, amassing a flurry of shots and corner kicks early in the match.  Despite the opportunities, the Wildcats defense and goalkeeper worked hard to keep the ball from finding the back of the net.  It took a tremendous effort from Freshman Kaeleigh Smedley who drove by the Penn College center before firing a missile in the right corner for what would become the game winner.

In the second half, the Wildcats started the half strong and added another level of physicality to the game.  Harrisburg matched the home squad blow for blow as both teams left everything on the field.  In the end, Romina Dichio put the game out of reach with her second goal of the season.  She pushed her way through two defenders and hit a quality strike to seal the win for the Lions.

The Blue and White goalkeeper Kayla Arnold secured her 4th shutout of the season.  She had plenty of help from the hardworking back line of Haley Vavrek, Paige Sharrow, Mackenzie Haladay and Bailey Smith in securing the second consecutive shutout.

Harrisburg only gets a few days off before hosting 2-2-1 Widener University on Saturday September 22nd at 2:00 pm.
