Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team planned to honor their seniors on Saturday October 17th, but instead of just celebrating their time with the program, the ladies made it extra special as every field playing senior scored a goal on top of senior goalkeeper Samantha Kutcher (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) earning her second straight shutout in the 8-0 win over the Southern Virginia Knights.
The Lions were strong from start to finish. Erica Hile (Ickesburg, Pa. / West Perry) scored in the 18th minute to get the ball rolling thanks to an assist from Leann Kazawic (Stanhope, N.J. / Sussex Tech). Once the first goal found the back of the net, it was just a matter of time until the Blue and White would add to their score total.
Penn State Harrisburg started the second half up 3-0, but the Knights refused to give up and came out strong looking to get on the board and make it a game. Kutcher was forced to make an important save or two, but eventually the Lions found their fourth score in the 64th minute and the flood gates opened.
Senior's Fay Ansary (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey), Kristin Peckman (Chambersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan), and Morgan Gates (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) all scored in the game that was meant to honor their time with the program. Goalkeeper Kutcher earned a shutout and Super Senior Tim Camara (Riverdale, Md. / Northwestern) was on fire scoring two goals on the day. Freshman Kristen Stark (Lancaster, Pa. / Donegal) added some additional offense with her goal and two assist day.
"Today felt like a turning point for our program, but we have to continue to stay focused on playing a game at a time to reach our season goals." Coach Clay finished with, "I am so proud of our seniors and the effect they have had on the team building us to this point."
Harrisburg has a huge match Wednesday October 21st against rival York College at Nittany Place Field. The kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
