Sawdey, Lehigh Earn CSC Academic All-District Recognition

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg softball players Madelyn Lehigh and Mackenzie Sawdey have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition.

 

For Lehigh, it is her second straight CSC Academic All-District honor, while Sawdey secured the plaudit for the first time. 

 

The 2024 CSC Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

 

Lehigh, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Third-Team selection, was named the United East Volt Division Player of the Year after turning in one of the most sterling statistical campaigns in program history, slashing .472/.534/.792 with a 1.326 OPS. The junior led the nation in triples (14) and triples per game (.33) and ranked 10th in the country in total bases (114) and hits (68), including three home runs and nine doubles. The shortstop scored 44 runs and drove in 27 more to go along with 17 walks and four stolen bases. Earlier this season, the Harrisburg, Pa. native became the program's all-time leader in career hits (187), runs (138), and triples (22). She was named the United East Volt Division Player of the Week twice this season. The Human Development and Family Studies major currently holds a 3.67 cumulative GPA. 

 

Last spring's United East Rookie of the Year, Sawdey earned NFCA All-Region Third-Team honors this season and was tabbed the United East Volt Division Pitcher of the Year after turning in an even better 2024 campaign, going 18-4 inside the circle and setting single-season program records for ERA (1.84) and strikeouts (143). The sophomore's win total was the 23rd-best mark in the nation, while her strikeout total ranked 35th in the country. The Halifax, Pa. native racked up 6.94 strikeouts per seven innings with a 1.32 WHIP in 144.1 innings thrown. She made 27 total appearances with 15 complete games. Sawdey was twice named the United East Volt Division Pitcher of the Week this spring. An Education major, she currently holds an impressive 3.84 cumulative GPA.
