LATHAM, N.Y. - Thanks to her strong start to the 2024 season, Penn State Harrisburg's Mackenzie Sawdey has been named the United East Volt Division Pitcher of the Week.
Sawdey jumpstarted the spring by earning a complete-game shutout victory over Bridgewater State in the team's opener on Sunday. The reigning United East Rookie of the Year allowed just four hits and struck out nine in seven innings thrown. The sophomore followed it up with 1.1 innings of relief work against Wilkes and did not allow a baserunner in addition to striking out three more batters.
In her two appearances, Sawdey racked up 12 strikeouts, earned one win, and recorded a perfect 0.00 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched.
The Lions return to action against Centenary (N.J.) and St. Elizabeth on Tuesday afternoon.
