Softball's Historic Season Ends In Conference Tournament

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - An historic 2022 campaign came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's softball team with a 7-0 loss to the eventual conference champions from Penn State Berks in the semifinal round of the United East Tournament on Sunday afternoon, May 8.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

A big third inning for Penn State Berks (24-12) proved the difference in a 7-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg (26-13) in the semifinal round of the United East Championship Tournament hosted by Penn College on Sunday afternoon.

 

McKenzie Boozel led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Steph Reider and Delaney Nevius each added a base hit. 

 

After a pair of scoreless innings to begin the game, the Penn State Berks bats broke through in the top of the third, using six hits and a Penn State Harrisburg error to plate five runs. Berks added another run in the top of the fourth and despite leadoff runners reaching base in the fourth and seventh innings, Penn State Harrisburg was unable to push any runners across.

 

NOTABLES

- McKenzie Boozel was the lone Penn State Harrisburg player to have a multi-hit day.

- Steph Reider and Delaney Nevius each finished with a single.

- Carissa Yeager got the start, allowing just two earned runs in 2.1 innings.

- Mary-Kate Penczkowski threw the final 4.2 frames for the Lions.
