MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg Softball Team wrapped up conference play at home on Saturday against rival Salisbury, but the Lions were unable to overcome a challenging Seagulls squad in either of the two match-ups on the afternoon. Here's how each game played out:
Game 1
Salisbury was able to score a run in the top of the first inning to get things started. With one out and runners on first and second, Annie Pietanza reached base on a fielding error that allowed the runner from third to score. 1-0 Seagulls
Penn State Harrisburg bounced back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. An RBI single from Amanda Hartman scored Kayla Seyfert from third base for the first run before a single down the right field line by Dominique Emmett—followed up with an error—brought Hartman all the way around from first base. 2-1 Lions
Things continued to go well for the Lions in the bottom of the third inning, which saw them add another three runs to their lead. A 2 RBI double to right field by Dominique Emmett scored Amanda Hartman and Emily Parmer. Emmett was able to finish her trip around the bases a few at-bats later when Allison Hartman reached base due to a Seagull fielding error. 5-1 Lions
The Seagulls chipped away at their deficit in the top of the fourth inning. A Kaila Beach at-bat began with runners on first and second, but a passed ball and a wild pitch brought the runner on second home to score before Beach popped up to end the inning. 5-2 Lions
Two more runs would score for the Lions in the bottom half of the fourth on a 2 RBI double down the right field line by Amanda Hartman, giving the Lions their biggest lead of the day. 7-2 Lions
The Lions were unable to hold onto their lead, however, when the top half of the sixth inning gave way to a seven-run outburst by the Seagulls. Lions starter Allison Hartman was unable to keep the opposition off balance any longer. Three singles, a double, and a triple combined to produce the seven runs, all earned. 9-7 Seagulls
A Kaila Beach RBI single in the top of the seventh would tack on one more run to create a three-run lead for the Seagulls. The Lions were unable to produce a comeback with their final opportunity in the bottom half of the inning.

Game 2
The Seagulls were the first to score in the second contest, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. An Annie Peitanza sacrifice fly would score LeAnne Collins from third base for the first run before a wild pitch scored Brooke Yeager in the following at-bat. 2-0 Seagulls
Penn State Harrisburg would cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the first inning. Kayla Seyfert scored from third base on an error that allowed Amanda Hartman to reach base safely. 2-1 Seagulls
In the top half of the third inning, Seagulls hitter Annie Pietanza would attempt to stretch a double into a triple, but the Lions fielders produced two great throws to cut her down. However, a run would score from second on the play. 3-1 Seagulls
Salisbury would score three more runs in the fourth inning. Emily Allen and Courtney Tate would each hit solo homeruns before a Caitlin Lake sacrifice fly would allow Summer Paglianete to score third run. 6-1 Seagulls
Some trickery by the Seagulls would add another run to their lead in the fifth inning. With runners on the corners, Courtney Tate began to take off for a steal of second. This resulted in a throw down to second, which left home plate wide open for Emily Allen to successfully steal home. 7-1 Seagulls
The Lions would give the Seagulls a taste of their own medicine in the bottom half of the fifth, essentially pulling off the same play. After Kayla Seyfert scored on an Emily Parmer single which led to runners being placed at the corners, Parmer would attempt a steal of second that left home plate open for Erelle Sowers to score from third base. Parmer would be thrown out on the play. 7-3 Seagulls
Two Singles and a double would increase the Seagull's lead to seven in the top of the sixth inning. The runs would also prove to be the final scores of the game, as the Lions again would fall short of another comeback attempt.
