Bats Fall Silent for Softball Team in Losses to Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. – The Penn State Harrisburg Softball Team traveled to Stevenson University on Sunday to take on the Mustangs while looking to put an end to their current eight-game slide.  Unfortunately, the offense still struggled to find holes and produce runs, losing both sides of the twin bill and increasingly their losing streak to ten games.

Game 1

The two teams only combined for three hits in the first two-and-a-half innings of play until the Mustangs came alive in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs on six hits.  They would score another four runs in the next inning to cap off a 9-0 win over the Lions.  Mustangs pitcher Jasmyn Ogletree was a Jessica Roelli single away from throwing a perfect game—allowing zero walks as well—as the Blue and White were unable to do much of anything offensively in this one.

Game 2

The Lions would end up out-hitting their opponents in the second half of the twin bill, but still managed to struggle to make those hits count.  Stevenson scored first in the bottom of the third inning on a _____ RBI single to center field to put the team up 1-0.  The Lions would answer back in the top of the fourth inning on a Katie Humphrey two out RBI single to right field that brought Carlee Gochenaur home from third base, tying the game at 1 apiece.  But another RBI single by Stevenson's ____ in the bottom of the fourth inning would put the Mustangs up for good.  Despite not earning the win, Lions Starter Allison Hartman had another strong showing, throwing six full innings and striking out three.  Both Mustang runs were unearned.
