Penn State Harrisburg Finishes on a Strong Note

Penn State Harrisburg traveled to Juniata to finish their 2016 campaign. The Lions sweep the Eagles 7-5 and 10-1.

 

In game one, the Lions jumped on the Eagles early scoring two runs in the top of the first as Emily Parmer (Willow Street, Pa. / Solanco) and Kate Herr (Kirkwood, Pa. / Solanco) both singled to bring home a run to take the early 2-0 lead. The Eagles would fight back scoring four unanswered runs in the first three innings to take the 4-2 lead after three innings. But Erelle Sowers (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton Area) would hit a 2 RBI single followed by an Amanda Hartman (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley) RBI to take the lead back, 5-4. Juniata would again come back tying the game at five apiece after five innings. After a scoreless 6th inning the Lions would take the lead for good as Kayla Seyfert (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) and Rieley Loch (Madison Township, Pa. / North Pocono) recorded RBIs to give the Lions the game 7-5. Hartman threw a complete game for the Lions striking out three in game one.

 

In game two, the Lions carried the momentum from game one into game two, scoring nine runs in the first two innings highlighted by a Jackie Furch (Hallstead, Pa. / Blue Ridge) three run homerun to take the 9-0 lead. Sowers would give up her only run of the game in the 2nd inning as she pitched a compete game while only giving up two hits to the Eagles. Sowers would then knock in the Lions last run of the day in the 5th to give the Lions the 10-1 win.

 

Furch and Loch led Harrisburg in their last game as Lions going a combined 7 for 12 with four RBIs and a Furch homerun.

 

As the Lions will enter the summer and will look to improve their record as their focus turns to the 2017 season.
