Penn State Harrisburg Sweeps Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg softball team came out swinging in their double header match up with the Elizabethtown Blue Jays on Tuesday March 15, 2016. The Blue and White started out strong and eventually swept Elizabethtown 3-2 in game one win and 5-2 in the final contest of the day.

Kristen Evans (Harrisburg, Pa. / Dauphin County Technical) doubled to center field for Harrisburg in the first inning of the day scoring two and giving the Lions the momentum they would not let go off throughout 14 innings of play.

Evans continued her impressive game, hitting the winning double that scored Amanda Hartman (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley) in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Hartman also pitched the entire game and closed out the final two innings for her third win of the year.

Penn State Harrisburg was forced to come from behind in game two after allowing an early run in the first inning.  The Lions started to shine offensively in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning where they combined for five runs to take a 5-1 lead.

Jackie Furch (Hallstead, Pa. / Blue Ridge) pitched well through six innings to claim the win and Erelle Sowers (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton Area) earned the save allowing one run to Elizabethtown in the final inning.  Offensively Harrisburg had a couple of standouts in game two, Jenna Rupakus (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) went 3-3 and scoring a run while Rieley Loch (Madison Township, Pa. / North Pocono) and Sowers both hit doubles.

The Lions (5-4) have a week off from competition before hosting their home opener against Stevenson Tuesday March 22nd starting at 3:00 P.M.
