Rupakus Propels Lions on Day Three

Penn State Harrisburg took to the field on the third day of their trip to Myrtle Beach. They took game one 7-4 over Wilkes University before falling to Suny Poly, 3-0.

Penn State Harrisburg opened their third day at Myrtle Beach taking on Wilkes University. Wilkes got things going with a RBI single in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. The Lions came back firing in the second and getting things started was Kristin Evans (Harrisburg, Pa. / Dauphin County Technical) who doubled.  That was followed by a single and a stolen base from Amanda Hartman (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley). Jenna Rupakus (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) then got the Lions on the board with a three-run inside the park homerun to give Harrisburg the 3-1 lead. After a scoreless third, Wilkes would come back scoring three runs with two outs after two Lion errors kept the inning alive. With the fifth again going scoreless, the Lions took control in the sixth scoring three runs, taking control and winning the game 7-4. Hartman led the way on the mound, throwing a complete game striking out ten while not allowing any earned runs.

In the second game of the day the Lions took on Suny Poly. After three scoreless innings the Wildcats opened the scoring with two in the bottom of the fourth before adding one more in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 3-0. With a strong performance on the mound from the Wildcats, the Lions were unable to manufacture any runs off of 5 hits on the day, falling in the end 3-0.

Leading the day for the Lions was Rupakus who went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, a home run, and two runs scored. Also with a strong performance on the day was Riley Loch (Madison Township, Pa. / North Pocono) who went 4 for 7 with an RBI.

The Lions will finish their trip in Myrtle Beach tomorrow when they take on Greensboro starting at 3:30 p.m.
