Penn State Harrisburg Splits With Juniata

Middletown, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg came out firing with a 9-3 win on Tuesday April 21st when they hosted Juniata College.  Unfortunately, the Lions ran out of steam in game two of the afternoon when the Eagles were able to even things up on the day with their large comeback 11-8 win to close out the day.

Penn State Harrisburg started game one by scoring one run in the bottom of the first thanks to a RBI single off the bat of Amanda Hartman (Reading Pa. / Oley Valley). After being scoreless for the first three innings, Juniata scored one run in the fourth to tie the game at one.

The Blue and White showed their power when they scored six runs in the bottom of the 4th thanks to a two run RBI double by Rieley Loch (Madison Township, Pa. / North Pocono) to take a 7-1 lead.

Trailing heading into the sixth, the Eagles scored two runs to make it 7 -3. But the Blue and White answered in the bottom half by scoring two more runs to increase their lead and go on to eventually win the game by score of 9-3.

The Lady Lions looked to continue their winning momentum in game two.  After a scoreless first, Juniata took the early lead when they scored one run in the 2nd.  The Blue and White quickly answered scoring three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead again in game two.  After a scoreless 3rd and 4th innings, the Lady Lions increased their lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the 4th thanks to a two run RBI single by Keriann Saich (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) to take a 5-1 lead. Loch added a RBI sacrifice fly to finish a four run 4th inning to go up 7-1.

The Eagles refused to call it quits and made a more than impressive comeback to scoring four runs in the fifth, five in the sixth, and one in the seventh to take a 11-7 lead. The Blue and White tried to fight back when they scored one run in the bottom half of the seventh but ultimately came up short losing the game 11-8.

Penn State Harrisburg will next be in action on Saturday April 25th when they host Albright College in a double header that is also Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
