Wolfe Profiled In CAC's "Introducing..." Feature

Do you want to know how to motivate Gabby Wolfe?  It's easy.  Give her any indication that you can do something better than she can, and she'll do her best to prove you wrong.  Try it during her mechanical engineering technology classes, or when she staring down a batter from the pitcher's plate.  She's got the attitude to succeed.  INTRODUCING … Penn State Harrisburg junior softball hurler Gabby Wolfe.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?

I have been playing softball since I can remember. I started tee-ball at four years old and I haven't stopped since. I have played tee-ball, little league, high school ball, and now here at Penn State Harrisburg. I played varsity all four years of high school.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?

I am a Mechanical Engineering Technology major. One thing that I have learned being in this major is precision. Being as close to right answer, the better you are.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite part of the campus is the Capital Union Building (CUB). This is where I can put in my headphones and do homework, workout, or relax. Plus, I have met some of the greatest people in that building who are always there for me.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?

The softball field. This is where I am the most relaxed and comfortable. Plus, no matter what we are doing on the field, whether it is a team campout, practice or a game, we are always having fun.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?

I am a part of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and I help coach little girls how to pitch. That is one of the most rewarding things that I do.  There's nothing better than watching them figure it out.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.

During my sophomore year, we played Valley Forge. I pitched two wins, had 11 strikeouts, no earned runs, hit three home runs, including a grand slam, with 11 RBIs. That was just one of the times where it showed that hard work really does pay off.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?

The most influential people other than my family members would have to be my coaches here at Penn State Harrisburg. They have made me the person I am today, and they have always stuck by my side no matter what. They aren't only coaches because they are always there off the field, too. They are here for not only my best interest, but for the teams' as well. Team = Family

What is the most important societal issue facing college students

Tuition Costs.  There is so much money that is put into going to college. You aren't only looking at the cost of tuition, but housing, gas, food and all those random hidden costs. As a student-athlete, sometimes it's hard to balance school, a sport and working.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?

Women's Equality. Women have the same abilities and rights to do everything that men can do. As I said before, I am an engineering major and sometimes there are men that don't agree with girls being in that field. Those guys are my inspiration to keep moving forward to prove them that girls can do anything that guys can do.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?

My favorite form of entertainment is music. I really enjoy listening to music because it helps me think and concentrate. It also gets me pumped up for games.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?

Listen to the adults around you and trust what they are telling you because they are there for you. They have been there before. They're on your side. You may not like what they have to say but chances are they know what they are talking about.

Outside of the CAC, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?

My favorite sports team is the Texas Longhorns. I love watching them play softball. They work so well as a team and they show that they want to play their hearts out.  They have some of the best players I have ever seen and they really work hard to accomplish their goals.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?

  1. My first person would be my Grandma Miller because I miss her. She was always there to talk and always had my back. She is one of my biggest inspirations because she could overcome any struggle that she faced and did it with a strong face without complaining. I want to be just like her when I get older.
  2. My second person would be Jennie Finch. She does things around the world in order to get other girls to love the game of softball like she does. She approaches the game with so much effort and she is there to win. She plays tough and fierce whether she is winning or losing.
  3. My third person would be Buddy the Elf from "Elf." Who wouldn't want to have dinner with him?
