Track & Field Opens Indoor Campaign at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2019-20 indoor campaigns at Susquehanna's River Hawk Opener on Saturday, Dec. 7.

 

The men were led by strong performances from Alex White and Dominick Hogans, while Neeyah Turner and Aiyala McPhee were among the top performers on the women's side.

 

White won the high jump event with a top leap of 1.98 meters; a mark good enough to rank him 12th in the nation following the first weekend of competition. The senior also had a strong showing in the long jump, earning a runner-up finish in the event with a top bound of 6.73 meters; an effort that currently ranks 19th in the country.

 

Hogans finished as the runner up in the 200m dash, with his time of 23.11 seconds currently  standing as the 37th-best mark in all of NCAA Divison III in the event. The sophomore also ran a time of 7.22 seconds in the 60m dash to come home in third-place.

 

Turner was victorious in the women's 60m hurdles by a margin of more than a full second thanks to an effort of 9.79 seconds. The junior also just missed out on a top-five finish and came home sixth in the 400m run with a jaunt of 1:05.99.

 

McPhee had a strong start to her season, running the 60m dash in 8.26 seconds; the second-quickest time of the day. Teammate Alexandria Morrison earned a top-five finish in the 800m run thanks to an effort of 2:44.44, while Jamilyn Nimo came home 10th in the shot put with a top toss of 9.34 meters.

 

The Lions will get a month-long break from competition before returning to action at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Friday afternoon, Jan. 10.
