MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the young season on Tuesday afternoon, dropping an 8-1 decision to a talented Lebanon Valley squad at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
Newly-minted United East Men's Tennis Player of the Week Cooper Wheeler accounted for the team's lone victory of the day when he swept LVC's Jesse Beck 6-4, 6-4 in the top singles contest.
Wheeler and Andrew Schreck competed hard before falling 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles outing, as did Owen Ou and Derwin Merca in a narrow 8-6 setback in the No. 2 matchup. Vik Patel and Colin Flack also dropped an 8-4 decision in the third doubles contest.
Elsewhere in solo action, Schreck battled with LVC's Adam Warren but came up just short in a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 loss in the No. 2 outing. Ou was also competitive in the No. 3 pairing but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-4 to Jake Erb. The Flying Dutchmen (4-1) were strong in the bottom of the lineup as well, as Merca, Patel, and Clayton Herb were each defeated in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles contests, respectively.
The Lions (2-1) will look to bounce back in their next outing when they host Misericordia for another non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon.
