Africa Leads Golf to Victory at Penn State Abington Invitational

WARMINSTER, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's golf team returned from a two-week hiatus in impressive fashion by besting six other teams to win the Penn State Abington Spring Invitational at Five Ponds Golf Club on Monday afternoon, April 17. Josh Africa also captured the event's individual championship.

 

As a group, the Lions shot a +30 (314) to earn the overall victory and best the runners-up from Penn College by eight strokes. Africa finished first in the field of 37 total golfers thanks to carding a +2 (73), topping runner-up Liam O'Rourke by two strokes.

 

Matthew Redman secured a third-place finish with a +5 (76) and Jonathan Donovan was the third Penn State Harrisburg golfer to capture a top-10 finish, with his +9 (80) proving good enough to earn him a share of ninth overall. Ian Martin finished 20th thanks to a +14 (85) and Tyler Sullivan wrapped things up with a +17 (88).

 

The Lions will now have two weeks to prepare for the two-day United East Championships beginning on Saturday, April 29.
