Men's Golf Impresses at Season-Opening LVC Invitational

LEBANON, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg men's golf returned to action at the LVC Spring Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley at Lebanon Country Club on Monday afternoon, March 29.

 

The Lions impressed in their season opener, securing a third-place finish as a team out of nine competing squads behind a cumulative score of 328 (+40). The Blue & White were paced by a pair of youngsters in freshmen Tiger Xu and Matthew Redman, along with junior Joshua Africa, as all three broke 80 in the first event of the spring.

 

Xu carded a 76 (+4) and earned a third-place finish, just two shots off the winning mark. Redman nearly matched his teammate with a 77 (+5), an effort good enough to secure him a fourth-place finish, while Africa's 79 (+7) earned him a share of sixth place overall.

 

Freshman Ian Martin also made his debut on Monday, posting an 84 (+12) and clinching a top-20 finish. Juniors Josh Swartz and Andrew Fink rounded out the group of Penn State Harrisburg competitors, with Swartz carding a 91 (+19) and Fink finishing with a 92 (+20).

 

Stevenson's Will Ford won the individual championship with a score of 74 (+2), while Eastern took home the team victory with a total score of 317 (+29)

 

The Lions will look to build on their impressive start when they take part in the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Invitational in Willingboro, N.J. on Monday afternoon, April 5.
