Men's Basketball Trounces St. Mary's (Md.)

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team avenged its only conference loss of the season with an 81-53 trouncing of United East foe St. Mary's (Md.) at an electric Capital Union Building on Thursday night, Feb. 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (19-2, 12-1 United East) exacted some revenge against St. Mary's (11-8, 10-3 United East), the only team to defeat the Lions in conference play this season, thanks to a 28-point victory over the Seahawks on Thursday night.

Donyae Baylor-Carroll buried six 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 25 points, Dylan Daniels racked up 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven blocks, Nate Curry finished with 15 points and five assists, and Brandon Coleman added nine points, four boards, and four assists.

The Blue & White never trailed, jumping out to a 7-0 lead following a Baylor-Carroll 3-ball off a Zegary Scott III assist at the 16:09 mark. The Lions stretched the advantage to 16-3 with a Daniels dunk off a Curry steal and assist with 10:20 left in the first half. Another Baylor-Carroll triple and a Daniels jumper pushed the lead to 15 late in the half but the visitors clawed back with a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to 32-24 at the break.

The home team responded with a 10-2 spurt to open the second half, capped by another Baylor-Carroll trey off a feed from Curry with 15:38 left to play. The Lions continued to control the pace, stretching the lead to 56-34 when Coleman beat the shot clock with a thunderous two-handed slam with 9:23 remaining.

Baylor-Carroll kept things rolling with his sixth 3-ball of the night; a dagger that pushed the lead to 28 with less than six minutes to play. Free throws from Daniels and Coleman pushed the advantage past 30 for the first time in the final four minutes before Chris Haynes put an exclamation point on the scoring with a one-handed jam in closing seconds.
