How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg defeated Morrisville State 96-60 in the semifinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Playoff Tournament at the Capital Union Building on Friday night, Feb. 28 and secured a spot in Saturday's conference title game.

Donyae Baylor-Carroll netted 16 points to go along with nine assists and five steals, while Zegary Scott III recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 dimes. Nate Curry scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Dylan Daniels had 13 points and four blocks and Chris Haynes finished with 13 points.

The Lions (19-7) jumped out to a quick lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Baylor-Carroll and Curry before stretching the advantage to 12-4 following a Pedro Rodriguez jumper at the 14:41 mark. Haynes took over and netted seven consecutive points, with his 3-ball at the 10:26 mark pushed the lead to 21-9.

Morrisville State (16-11) cut the deficit to seven with a Rahmell Smith bucket from beyond the arc but the Blue & White responded with a game-changing 19-4 run that was capped by another Curry 3-pointer with 2:06 left before the break. Scott III converted a layup in transition despite getting fouled off a pretty Baylor-Carroll feed and finished the old-fashioned 3-point play to make it 44-23 at halftime.

Baylor-Carroll and Scott III knocked down back-to-back jumpers to open the second half and Curry stayed hot with another 3-ball that extended the advantage to 51-25 at the 18:15 mark. The highlight of the night came when Baylor-Carroll went behind his back to find Daniels who hammered home a two-handed slam to make it 66-41 with 12:58 remaining.

Robby Bobeck got involved in the closing minutes and converted two layups in a row to give the Lions their largest lead of the night to that point at 83-51 with 6:31 left to play. He added a dunk for good measure with two minutes remaining and Donald Friday Jr. capped the game's scoring with a jumper in the final seconds.

- The Lions shot 60.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range.

- Morrisville State shot 34.4 percent from the floor and 22.7 percent from beyond the arc.

- The Blue & White cleaned up on the glass and finished with a 46-28 rebounding margin.

- Penn State Harrisburg recorded assists on 29 of its 38 made field goals.

- The home bench outscored the Mustang reserves 25-13.

- Zegary Scott III racked up a 13-point, 10-assist double-double. He also grabbed six rebounds.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll just missed out on a double-double with 16 points, nine assists and five steals.

- Nate Curry also netted 16 points and pulled down eight boards.

- Dylan Daniels finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks.

- Chris Haynes impressed in scoring 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

- Pedro Rodriguez was vital off the bench, finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

- Robby Bobeck netted eight points in just five minutes of action.

- Clinton Asalu added seven points, three boards and a pair of steals.

- Kevin Dennis led the way for the Mustangs with 25 points and seven rebounds.

- Lancaster Bible defeated SUNY Poly 79-75 in the tournament's first semifinal contest.

The Lions host Lancaster Bible in the NEAC Championship Game at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
