How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg dropped an 87-79 decision to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe SUNY Cobleskill in heartbreaking fashion despite one of the most impressive offensive efforts in recent memory from Donyae Baylor-Carroll at the Capital Union Building on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12.

Baylor-Carroll scored a career-high 36 points, including 29 in the first half, and finished one 3-pointer shy of matching the single-game program record of nine. Zegary Scott III posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, while Dylan Daniels was the third player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 11.

After leading by as many as 20 points late in the first half, the Lions (6-6, 1-1 NEAC) watched their advantage evaporate down the stretch due in large part to a crucial span that saw the home team fail to convert a field for nearly 12 minutes.

Nate Curry converted a layup to push the lead to 71-55 with 12:42 left to play. And while the Blue & White were able to add six free throws in the closing minutes, they would not connect on another attempt from the field until Daniels put back an offensive rebound with 45 seconds remaining.

In between, the Fighting Tigers (8-3, 2-1 NEAC) mounted a furious comeback that resulted in a 28-6 run and an 83-77 lead with less than a minute remaining. Baylor-Carroll and Pedro Rodriguez got off 3-point attempts in the final seconds but their shots missed the mark.

The first half saw Baylor-Carroll shoot the lights out to the tune of 27 consecutive points. The sophomore sharpshooter connected on a 3-pointer to put the Lions ahead 30-23 at the 7:27 mark and never looked back. He added a jumper and four 3-balls in a row before converting three free throws followed by a 4-point play and another triple that beat the first-half buzzer.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions shot 75 percent (18-24) from the floor in the opening half before shooting just 24.2 percent (8-33) from the field after the break.

- SUNY Cobleskill managed 45.7 percent (16-35) shooting from the field in the first half before improving to 69.2 percent (18-26) from the floor in the second.

- Penn State Harrisburg edged the Fighting Tigers 34-31 on the glass.

- The Cobleskill bench outscored the Blue & White reserves 26-5.

- The visitors scored 16 points off Penn State Harrisburg turnovers.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll netted a career-best 36 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

- Baylor-Carroll's eight 3-pointers are the second-most ever made in a single game in program history.

- Zegary Scott III recorded a double-double thanks to 12 points and 10 assists. He added four boards and two steals.

- Dylan Daniels finished with 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of rejections.

- Nate Curry tallied eight points and six boards.

- Chris Haynes had seven points to go along with three rebounds, an assist and one block.

- Pedro Rodriguez chipped in with four points and four boards off the bench.

- James Conteh led the way for the Fighting Tigers with 19 points.

The Lions will look to bounce back when they travel to Penn College for another conference tilt on Wednesday night, Jan. 15.
