How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell to Widener 82-74 in the championship game of the 2019 Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament presented by Comfort Inn & Suites Harrisburg Airport – Hershey South at the Capital Union Building on Sunday evening, Nov. 10.

Donyae Baylor-Carroll led all scorers with 20 points, while Nate Curry recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Haynes was the third Blue & White player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 12 points.

A Curry layup at the 12:15 mark put the Lions (1-1) ahead for the first time but the Pride (2-0) responded with a 12-to-0 run over the next four minutes that stretched the advantage to 21-10.

Trailing 33-20 with 5:52 left in the first half, Penn State Harrisburg dug in defensively and used a 13-to-2 spurt capped by a Rodriguez layup over little more than a five-minute span to cut the deficit to two with 24 seconds left in the half.

Widener responded in the second half and pushed the lead back to double digits when Connor Laverty knocked down a 3-pointer with 15:05 remaining and the visitors' lead reached as much as 17 points with five minutes left to play.

The Blue & White pulled to within nine points when Baylor-Carroll buried a jumper from beyond the arc with 3:59 remaining. The home team got as close as seven numerous times in the closing minutes but were forced to foul down the stretch and the Pride converted their free throws to hold on in crunch time.

Inside the Numbers

- The Pride shot 49 percent from the field, compared to 43.1 percent from the floor for the Blue & White.

- Widener shot 41.2 percent from 3-point territory, while the Lions shot 29.2 percent from distance.

- Penn State Harrisburg won the rebounding battle 38-to-35.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll scored a game-high 20 points and added four assists and four rebounds.

- Nate Curry recorded the first double-double of his collegiate career with 12 points and 12 boards off the bench.

- Chris Haynes also added 12 points in a reserve role.

- Brandon Coleman and Zegary Scott III chipped in with nine points each.

- Pedro Rodriguez netted eight points and added six rebounds.

- Coleman and Dylan Daniels were named to the all-tournament team.

- Elijah Boyd's 18 points led the way for Widener.

- Kenny Lewis posted a double-double for the Pride.
