How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg's time in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men's Basketball Tournament came to an end with a 65-51 loss at Mary Washington in first round action on Tuesday night, Feb. 19.

Zegary Scott III netted a team-high 15 points for the Lions (13-13), while Milton Hershey teammates Donyae Baylor-Carroll and Pedro Rodriguez tallied 10 points apiece. Central teammates Kahlil Williams and Chris Bing added eight rebounds and five points each.

The Blue & White were forced to climb out of an early hole after the Eagles (18-8) used a 9-0 run capped by a Da'Shawn Cook jump shot midway through the first half to take a 23-8 advantage at the 8:22 mark. The visitors eventually fell behind by as many as 17 points following a Johnny Cronin layup with 4:23 left before the break.

Down 33-16 with 18 minutes remaining, Penn State Harrisburg clamped down and eventually put together a 23-7 run over the span of nine minutes that allowed the Lions to get back into it. During the spurt, Scott contributed eight points, while Rodriguez knocked down a trio of 3-pointers, including one while being fouled that resulted in a 4-point play.

UMW scored the next four points but Scott knocked down a pair of free throws before adding a layup to bring the Blue & White to within two at 45-43 with 6:27 left to play. From there, however, the Eagles netted 10 points in a row to push the lead to double digits with less than four minutes remaining. The Lions were unable to mount another run in the closing minutes and Mary Washington escaped with the first round win.
