How It Happened

After battling back from a 16-point halftime deficit, Penn State Harrisburg fought to the end against a stout Salisbury squad before narrowly falling 87-80 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2.

Kahlil Williams had a strong outing, posting a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Donyae Baylor-Carroll came to life in the second half, scoring 19 points. Dylan Daniels added 11 points and five boards off the bench, while Zegary Scott III was the fourth player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 11 points.

Trailing 42-26 at the half, the Lions (12-9, 4-6 CAC) rallied to cut the SU advantage to single digits for the first time since the game's opening moments when Brandon Coleman picked the pocket of Blair Davis and finished with a finger roll in transition on the other end with 14:26 remaining.

The Blue & White kept the momentum rolling, with Baylor-Carroll making a pretty no-look pass to Williams for a dunk that drew the home team to within 51-47 at the 12:02 mark. A Baylor-Carroll 3-pointer cut it to two a few minutes later before the shifty guard completed an old-fashioned 3-point play to bring the Lions to within one with 8:23 to play.

Things remained tight down the stretch, with another DBC jumper keeping the deficit to one with four minutes left. Then came a quick 6-0 run by the Sea Gulls (16-5, 6-4 CAC) that pushed their advantage back to seven with 2:23 remaining.

From there, the Lions were forced to foul and despite converting buckets on the offensive end, they were unable to make another significant push. Salisbury converted enough free throws in crunch time to escape the CUB with the slim victory.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions shot 49 percent from the floor, while Salisbury shot 53.7 percent from the field.

- The Sea Gulls connected on eight 3-pointers, while the Blue & White managed just two 3-balls on the day.

- Penn State Harrisburg impressed at the foul line, going 30-34 (88.2 percent)

- SU managed to shoot just 65.6 percent (21-32) from the charity stripe.

- The home team won the rebounding battle 32-27.

- Kahlil Williams was strong, recording a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line.

- After a slow start, Donyae Baylor-Carroll exploded in the second half en route to 19 points. He added three assists and two steals and went 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

- Dylan Daniels scored 11 points, grabbed five boards and blocked two shots in 17 minutes off the bench.

- Zegary Scott III had 11 points, two steals and two assists. He also went 5-of-6 from the foul line.

- Chris Bing added seven points and three rebounds.

- Brandon Coleman added four points, four assists and a pair of steals.

- Keenan Wise and Ibn-Haneef Nelson each netted four points in reserve roles.

- SU's Mike Ward scored a game-high 27 points.
