Baseball Comes From Behind to Earn Season Sweep of Wilson

caiden ertter celebrates after closing out the game in a win over wilson in 2024

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team capped off a busy weekend with a 10-5 come-from-behind victory over Wilson in a United East divisional crossover on Sunday afternoon, April 7.

The Lions (19-5) scored eight unanswered runs and Brendan Henn supplied the power with an eighth-inning grand slam that put things out of reach for good. Dallas Hite, Carlos Irizarry, and Blaine Waltimyer also had multi-hit games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg took an early 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in both the second and third innings. Lucas Floyd got things going with an RBI triple in the second before Kevin Lehner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ensuing frame.

The Phoenix (14-7) took advantage of three defensive miscues in the fourth and tied things up in the top half before taking their first lead of the afternoon with three more runs in the top of the sixth.

The Lions regrouped in the bottom half, with Floyd and Josh Lantz working back-to-back walks before Coy Schwanger was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one away. Hite came through with a line drive double to left center that plated a pair and Drew Sassaman's RBI groundout tied things up. Carlos Irizarry put the home team back out in front with a two-out, swinging bunt single to third base that drove in Hite.

Both teams left the bases loaded in the seventh but Henn came up clutch in the eighth when he cleared the base paths by pummeling a grand slam over the fence in left field to stretch the advantage to 10-5. Caiden Ertter took over on the mound in the ninth and recorded a 1-2-3 inning to seal the victory.
