Baseball's Win Streak Ends With Setback at Scranton

drew sassaman steps out of the batter's box during a win over penn state berks

SCRANTON, Pa. - Miscues plagued Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team as its season-best 12-game win streak ended with an 11-4 non-conference loss at Scranton on Friday evening, April 5.

Three errors led to four unearned runs and put the Lions (16-6) in a hole they were unable to overcome. Tim Haftl and Brendan Henn had multi-hit outings, while Kevin Lehner drove in two runs and Drew Sassaman scored a pair of his own.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg stranded a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the third inning and immediately paid for it in the bottom half when the Royals (14-5) put up five runs; four of which were unearned.

The Lions got one back in the top of the fourth when Haftl was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat as the visitors left them loaded. They cut the deficit in half in the fifth when a Lehner RBI single drove in Coy Schwanger before a Carlos Irizarry fielder's choice plated Sassaman but Scranton got them all back and more in the bottom half.

Lehner drove in another run in the seventh to make it 10-4 but that was all the scoring the Lions could muster the rest of the way.

NOTABLES

- Lehner finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

- Haftl went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

- Sassaman walked twice and scored a team-best two runs.

- Braeden Piotrowski walked twice and stole two bases.

- Fisher Druck got the start and threw four innings, allowing eight hits but just one earned run.

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions face Keystone in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon.
