Baseball Takes Opener of Three-Game Series From Wells

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team stayed perfect in conference play thanks to a 10-2 victory over United East foe Wells on Friday afternoon, March 25.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (7-10, 4-0 United East) put up a four spot in the first inning and never looked back in a 10-2 victory over conference foe Wells (6-10, 2-2 United East) on Friday afternoon.

Brendan Henn went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Chase Smith and Kevin Lehner also had multi-hit games. Drew Harshbarger earned his first win of the year on the mound, striking out 10 batters in six innings, while Simeon Davis and Roberto Barron did not surrender a single hit in three innings of relief.

The Lions took advantage of two Wells' errors in the bottom of the first, loading the bases before Smith and Drew Sassaman each drove in a pair of runs with RBI singles to make it 4-0 after the opening frame. The Blue & White added another run in the bottom of the second when a Matt Parks' two-out double drove in Dallas Hite. They tacked on two more in the third when Matt Isaac and Dakota Wright drove in one run apiece thanks to RBI singles.

Harshbarger was lights out through four frames but the Express finally broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Penn State Harrisburg got one back in the bottom half thanks to a Sassaman fielder's choice that plated Henn and Harshbarger worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the next stanza, allowing the Lions to stretch the lead to eight with two more runs in the bottom half.

Simeon Davis took over for Harshbarger in the seventh and threw two scoreless innings before Roberto Barron sat the Express down in order in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
