GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings announced its 2019 NCAA Division III Regional Players of the Year and All-Region Teams on Tuesday afternoon, May 28. Penn State Harrisburg's Bret Williams, Miguel Torres and Travis Van Houten were among those honored by the organizations.

Williams was named the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Position Player of the Year and joined teammates Torres and Van Houten on the ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team. The teams are voted on by members of the ABCA, with the process being led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Committee.

Williams was joined by Johns Hopkins senior hurler Jack Bunting as a major award winner in the region, with Bunting being tabbed the ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year.

Williams is the first player in program history to earn the regional player of the year accolade. He also became a three-time first-team all-region honoree after securing D3baseball.com First-Team honors earlier this month and ABCA First-Team recognition last spring. The junior turned in a career year in 2019 and currently leads the nation in hits (88), runs (75) and total bases (161). The Mount Carmel, Pa. native also ranks second in the country in home runs (18) and runs batted in (70). Williams was named the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Year after winning the league's batting title and slashing .431/.514/.789 with an OPS of 1.303. The outfielder added 36 extra-base hits, including 17 doubles, 32 walks and seven stolen bases. Williams was named CAC First-Team All-Conference for the second year in a row after picking up D3baseball.com National Team of the Week and CAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

Torres capped an outstanding senior campaign with a pair of all-region accolades after picking up D3baseball.com Second-Team All-Region honors earlier this month. The infielder ranks second in NCAA Division III in hits (79), eighth in runs (59), 19th in total bases (116) and 32nd in runs batted in (51). The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native slashed .385/.432/.572 with an OPS of 1.004 and recorded 21 extra-base hits, including seven home runs, 10 doubles and four triples. He added 19 walks and 15 stolen bases, while racking up 117 assists and 84 put outs from his middle infield positions. Thanks to his efforts, Torres was named to the CAC All-Conference First Team earlier this month.

Van Houten's versatility was key to Penn State Harrisburg's success this season and it led to a pair of all-region honors for the junior after he earned D3baseball.com Second-Team All-Region recognition earlier this month. The Saylorsburg, Pa. native currently leads the nation in runs batted in (71) and ranks fifth in the country in total bases (132), 13th in hits (74) and 15th in home runs (12). The utility man slashed .385/.478/.688 with an OPS of 1.166 and added 29 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles and five triples. He also walked 35 times and stole four bases. He was also stout on the mound, racking up six wins, a save and 78 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched, while holding opposing hitters to a .277 batting average. For his efforts, Van Houten earned a pair of CAC First-Team All-Conference honors as both a starting pitcher and designated hitter.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First-Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Americans will be announced on Thursday evening, May 30.
