FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Penn State Harrisburg's Bret Williams was named the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Baseball Player of the Year and four players earned all-conference honors, as announced by the CAC on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams is the first player in program history to earn the player of the year moniker. He joined Travis Van Houten and Miguel Torres as CAC First-Team All-Conference picks, while Zach Gettys was named to the all-conference second team.

For Williams, his most recent accolade comes after earning first-team honors last spring and second-team recognition in 2017. The junior is in the midst of an historic campaign that's seen him slash .428/.505/.778 with an OPS of 1.283. He currently leads the nation in runs (66) and total bases (140), while his 77 hits rank second in NCAA Division III. The outfielder's 15 home runs rank third in the country and he currently sits fourth among Division III players with 58 runs batted in. Williams was recently named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after earning CAC Player of the Week honors last month.

Van Houten earned a pair of first-team all-conference honors as both a starting pitcher and a designated hitter. The junior currently leads the nation with 67 RBIs and his 119 total bases are good enough to rank him eighth among Division III players. He's slashing .383/.475/.713 on the season with a 1.188 OPS to go along with 11 home runs, five triples, 12 doubles and 46 runs scored. Van Houten also proved the team's top starter on the mound this spring, earning six wins and racking up 73 strikeouts in 69 innings thrown.

Torres picked up the second all-conference honor of his career after being named a second-team pick a year ago. The senior has racked up 71 hits so far this spring, good enough to rank seventh in the country, and his 53 runs scored are 10th-most in NCAA Division III. The second baseman is slashing .401/.455/.599 with an OPS of 1.054 and he's racked up seven home runs, three triples, eight doubles, 47 RBIs and 106 total bases. He's also posted a .940 fielding percentage from his middle infield positions, tallying 67 putouts and assisting on 106 more.

Gettys proved another of Penn State Harrisburg's top hurlers, earning six victories in 12 appearances and 11 starts on the bump this season. The lefty racked up 66 strikeouts in 52.2 innings of work, while recording a 4.61 earned run average and holding opposing hitters to a .269 batting average during his sophomore campaign. Gettys was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week late last month.

In addition to Williams' player of the year honor, freshman shortstop Austin Denlinger from York (Pa.) was named the CAC Rookie of the Year, while Christopher Newport's John Harvell was voted the CAC Coach of the Year by his peers.
