How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg's home opener was a resounding success thanks to a decisive 7-1 victory over soon-to-be North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn State Berks on Wednesday afternoon, March 13.

Seven pitchers in Mason Vogwill, Michael De Leon, Tyler Jackson, Nick Fitzgerald, Phoenix Spiller, Tyler Stabley and John Olcott combined to allow just one run and five hits, while Jackson Struve drove in a game-high three runs and Ryan McSorley and Zachary Koroneos scored two runs each.

The Lions (6-2-1) got on the board first when Koroneos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning. Tyler Aug drove in the second run with a bases-loaded walk and Struve's single to right field plated McSorley and Koroneos to push the advantage to 4-0 heading into the fourth frame.

The visitors got one run back thanks to a double in the top of the fourth but the Blue & White tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth when Struve's sacrifice fly brought McSorley across and a Williams RBI ground ball allowed Koroneos to cross the plate.

The home team put a cap on the scoring when Penn State Harrisburg executed a double steal to perfection in the bottom of the seventh, when Tucker Ell took off for second and drew a throw before Dallas Hite beat the ensuing throw home to make it 7-1.
