Angstadt, Riotto, Smith Named Captains For 2019 Campaign

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg head coach Ryan Bown has announced that Scott Angstadt Jr., Brendan Riotto and Chase Smith will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2019 campaign.

 

Angstadt has earned captainship for the second year in a row. The senior appeared in 31 games last spring, batting .220 with an on-base percentage of .375 and a .240 slugging percentage. The Jarrettsville, Md. native added 15 walks, seven RBI and three stolen bases. The outfielder also recorded 12 putouts and assisted on another.

 

Riotto made 17 appearances on the mound a year ago, earning a pair of wins in addition to leading the team with three saves. The senior made one start and turned in 25.1 innings of work, striking out 21 opposing batters during that span. The Exton, Pa. native also held Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) hitters to a .174 batting average.

 

Smith had an impressive freshman season in 2018, appearing in 44 games and hitting .283, slugging .470 and posting an on-base percentage of .417. The Martinsburg, Pa. native amassed 47 hits, including six home runs, three triples and seven doubles to go along with 27 RBI, 35 runs, 25 walks and 17 stolen bases. The sophomore also posted a .964 fielding percentage with 80 putouts in the outfield.

 

The Lions open the regular season with a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 23. The team's first home contest comes against Penn State Berks on Wednesday afternoon, March 13.
