Penn State Harrisburg Grabs First Conference Win Against Mary Washington

Middletown, PA.- The Penn State Harrisburg baseball team defeated Mary Washington on Monday March 13th for their first conference win of the season. The Lion's won the first game 3-2 before falling in the second match up 8-6 to split the day with the Eagles.

Game 1:

It was a low scoring game for both sides as Penn State Harrisburg defeated the visiting Mary Washington Eagles 3-2 in game one. In the bottom of the second, David Klein singled to right field, sending Josh Brubaker and Tyler Aug to home plate to give Harrisburg an early 2-0 lead. Mary Washington tied the game up in the fifth with a single to center field and a walk as Riley West was hit by a pitch. The Lion's score their winning run in the bottom of the sixth when Josh Brubaker was sent home due to a single to center field by Alex Cline. Brendan Riotto recorded his first win of the season on the mound with 6 strike outs and only four hits given up. Hank Briggs earned his first loss of the year with 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 errors, and 4 walks. David Klein led for the Blue and White with 2 RBI's.

Game 2:

In game two the Lion's got on the board first once again thanks to a wild pitch by the Eagles, advancing Justin O'Dell to home plate to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third the Eagles brought in two runs on back to back doubles to lead 2-1. The Lion's regained the lead in the fifth with their biggest inning of the day, bringing home four runs. Bret Williams got things started with a single, sending Scott Angstadt Jr. to home plate. Zachary Koroneous grounded out to second base next at bat as David Klein scored. Tom Denniston was sent home next as Josh Brubaker grounded out to second base followed by a single to left field from Tyler Aug. Bret Williams added one more to the board to put Harrisburg on top 5-2. The Eagles added three of their own in the top of the eighth, scoring on a wild pitch and a single to center field. In the top of the ninth the visitors added two final runs thanks to a double to center field, scoring two unearned runs by Riley West and Ramsis Ruiz to lead Harrisburg 8-5. Russell Boop's score in the bottom of the ninth was not enough to overcome the Eagles lead as Mary Washington won 8-6. Bret Williams led with 2 RBI's.
