Track & Field Wraps Up Weekend Competition at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up three days of competition at the Messiah Multi and Invitational on Saturday evening, April 9.

Kyli Moon-Rumsey turned in a stellar effort in the women's heptathlon on Thursday and Friday, finishing sixth overall out of 20 total competitors. Her 3,122 total points in the event set a new personal record and currently rank her second all-time in program history. She was especially strong in the javelin throw, finishing second with a top toss of 26.45 meters, while also finishing fifth in the 200m dash.

The strong rookie campaigns continued for Sammi Aromin and Tatyana Gibson, as Aromin set a new program record in the 10,000m, smashing the previous mark by more than three minutes thanks to her effort of 39.35.50. Gibson turned in a strong time in the 1,500m, with her jaunt of 4:59.25 proving good enough to secure a top-five finish in the event.

On the men's side, it was Jordan Payne breaking records, as his run of 34:44.68 in the 10,000m now stands as the top mark in program history, besting the previous record by nearly 20 seconds.

Tony Pelino reset his PR in the pole vault thanks to a top effort of 3.60 meters; a number good enough to rank second all-time in Penn State Harrisburg history. Scott Brosius turned in a personal best in the triple jump as well, with his top leap of 12.95 meters proving strong enough to rank second in program history in the event. Sean Myron was the third athlete to etch his name in the record book, tossing the javelin 52.26 meters; a mark good enough to rank third all-time in the event.

The Lions will look to keep the strong performances rolling when they return to action by taking part in a rare mid-week meet at York (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon, April 13.
