Records Fall In Track & Field Opener at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After a nearly two-year hiatus, Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams got back to competition at Susquehanna's Early Season Invitational on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 4. The Lions indoor debut was a memorable one, with three program records falling in the season opener.

Tatyana Gibson was outstanding in her first collegiate meet, winning the women's 800m run and setting a pair of program records. The freshman posted a time of 2:28.16 in her victory after earning a runner-up finish in the mile run thanks to a program-best effort of 5:44.40. Fellow freshman Sammi Aromin also made history on Saturday. Fresh off her cross country all-region recognition, the rookie set a new program record in the 3,000m run thanks to a time of 11:02.22.

On the men's side, it was Uzee Ukattah putting on a show, as the sprinter won the 60m dash with a blistering effort of 7.07 seconds. He also earned a runner-up finish in the 200m dash thanks to jaunt of 23.89 seconds. Sean Myron etched his name on the list of top program performers, as his toss of 11.52m in the shot put was good enough to rank third all-time.

Elsewhere on the men's side, Alex White was the runner-up in the high jump and he also took third in the long jump. Mohammed Tall secured a top-five finish in the 60m dash, while Seth Moyer came home sixth in the 200m. For the women, Leah Gray finished fifth in the 60m dash and Nofisat Aina turned in a fifth-place effort in the long jump.

With a strong start to build on, the Lions will enjoy their mid-semester break before returning to Susquehanna for their next meet in January. Penn State Harrisburg will compete at SU's Multi and Invitational beginning on Friday, Jan. 14.
