WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's softball team's memorable postseason run came to an end in the final game of the United East Championship Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions eliminated top-seeded Penn College in their first outing of the day and shut out Penn State Berks in their second contest before ultimately falling in the title game.

Penn State Harrisburg (25-16) opened the day with a 3-1 victory over the hosts from Penn College. In the win, Mackenzie Sawdey threw 4.2 innings and allowed just one run to go along with three strikeouts, while Carissa Yeager surrendered just one hit in the final 2.1 frames. Madelyn Lehigh doubled and scored two runs to pace the offense.

The Wildcats (29-10) scored first in the bottom of the third but the Lions answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. The visitors tacked on an insurance run in the sixth and Yeager and the defense took care of the rest to knock the top seed out of the tournament.

The Lions (26-16) kept the momentum rolling in their second game of the afternoon and matched the single-season program record for wins thanks to a 2-0 victory over Penn State Berks (26-9). Sawdey turned in another stellar effort, throwing five innings without surrendering a hit while striking out three batters. Yeager earned the save after throwing the final two stanzas without allowing a run. Steph Reider had a two-hit game and drove in a run.

Penn State Harrisburg grabbed a lead it wouldn't relinquish when Reider drove in Lehigh with an RBI single in the top of the fourth before Leah Macaluso's pinch-hit RBI infield single plated Alexus Brown later in the frame. Penn State Berks threatened in the seventh thanks to a one-out double but Yeager got the final two batters to strike out, punching a ticket to the conference championship game for her squad.

After winning three postseason games in less than 24 hours, Penn State Harrisburg appeared to finally run out of gas in the team's final contest, as the Lions (26-17) fell to Penn State Berks (27-9) 9-1 in the United East Championship Game.

Reider and Rylee Martinez each had multi-hit outings, while Lehigh scored the team's lone run. The Lions opened the game by loading the bases but were unable to come away with any runs in the top of the first. Penn State Berks took advantage and put up seven runs on eight hits in the bottom of the second to effectively put things out of reach.

Berks tacked on another run in the fourth before Lehigh, Mackenzie Fisher, and Reider got a two-out rally going with back-to-back-to-back singles that resulted in Lehigh coming across in the fifth but the opposing Lions responded with another run in the bottom of the stanza to clinch their second straight conference title.
