Softball Handles Morrisville State In Doubleheader Sweep

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg softball completed the season sweep of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Lancaster Bible with a pair of victories at a windy Courtney Pollock Memorial Field on Friday afternoon, April 30. The Lions pulled away for a 10-2 win in the opener before leaving no doubt in a 25-5 victory in the nightcap.

GAME 1

Madelyn Krantz was a force at the plate in the first game of the conference doubleheader, hitting a pair of home runs, including a walk-off solo shot, to lead the Lions to a 10-2 victory in the opener. Mary-Kate Penczkowski was stout inside the circle and Courtney Fleisher finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

The Blue & White got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the opening inning before Krantz stretched the lead to five thanks to a two-out, three-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the second.

The visitors took advantage of a Penn State Harrisburg error and scored two runs in the top of the third but the Lions pushed the lead to six in the bottom half when a Delaney Nevius sacrifice fly plated Harley Sampson and a Fleisher triple drove in Krysten Moore and Samantha Weaver.

Fleisher drove in another run with a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth and Krantz put an exclamation point on the contest by roping a solo shot over the left center field fence in the bottom of the sixth.

GAME 2

Penn State Harrisburg racked up 20 total hits and a season-high run total in a 25-5 victory over Morrisville in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

The home team put things out of reach early, using six hits and a pair of Mustang errors to tally 11 runs in the first inning. Courtney Fleisher hit a grand slam in her second at-bat of the opening stanza and a Kaylee DeMatteo double drove in Madelyn Pyle and Madelyn Krantz before the frame was through.

From there, the Blue & White plated nine in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and four more in the bottom of the fourth.

The visitors were able to put up two runs in the top of the second and three more in the fourth but every time MSU made a slight push, Penn State Harrisburg responded with a crooked number in the ensuing stanza.
