NEAC Recognizes Boyd and Pae

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has selected Penn State Harrisburg softball players Kara Boyd (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley) and Emily Pae (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) as the league's Student-Athletes of the Week for the time period ending Sunday, Mar. 11.  Boyd earned the accolade for her stellar outings inside the circle while Pae was honored for her strong performance at the plate.

Boyd picked up two wins for the Lions during their Myrtle Beach, SC spring break trip last week including a 4-3 comeback victory over Eastern on Monday, Mar. 5; the team's first of the year.  The junior pitched a complete seven inning game, allowing just six hits and one earned run to go along with her six strikeouts.

She followed it up by throwing a gem in the blue and white's 3-0 loss to Immaculata.  The Alexandria native allowed just one hit through six innings and finished with eight strikeouts and just one earned run against her.

Boyd made an unscheduled relief appearance in the Lions' come-from-behind 14-8 win over Miami Hamilton the very next day and threw five strong innings, giving up just three hits and one run in addition to striking out four batters.

Pae was red hot at the plate during her time down south, batting a stout .444 while racking up 12 hits, six RBIs and five runs scored.  The senior notched a crucial RBI in Penn State Harrisburg's one-run victory over Eastern and was a key factor in the Lions' late rally over Miami Hamilton three days later, going 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

She also had great outings against Dakota State on Tuesday, Mar. 6 and SUNYIT on Thursday, Mar. 8.  The Susquehanna grad went 3-4 against Dakota and drove in two runs.  Pae finished the week against the Wildcats by going 2-3 with two runs scored and a walk.
