Boyd Goes On NCAA DIII Record-Breaking Streak

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's Sophomore, Kara Boyd (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley), broke the NCAA Division III softball record for consecutive hits this past week with seventeen hits in a row.  This streak also ties the hit streak record for NCAA Division II and eclipses the DI record.

Boyd's streak started on April 7, 2011 in the first game of the doubleheader with Wilson College, when she recorded four straight hits.  In game two, Boyd went five for five including a double and a triple.

Two days later, Boyd recorded five straight hits versus the College of St. Elizabeth in game one of the doubleheader.  Game two saw Boyd hitting an additional three straight, including another double and triple to bring her total to seventeen before the streak ended on an error by the College of St. Elizabeth's shortstop on April 9, 2011.

During the four games of the streak, Boyd went seventeen of nineteen with a .947 batting average.  Boyd's record setting streak broke the previous streak of thirteen, which was held by Kim Glodek (Lycoming College), Michelle DeCoursey (College of Brockport) and Cianna Pender (Rhodes College).

Boyd is the first Penn State Harrisburg athlete to break an NCAA record.

The Lady Lions will host Immaculata University on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:00PM.
