Lady Lions Pick up First Win of Season

Lady Lions Pick up First Win of Season

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Lady Lions were finally able to put together a complete game of pitching, hitting and fielding and boy did they look good. Erika Sorenson (Red Land/York, PA) took the mound for the Lady Lions and opposing her for Penn State Schuylkill was former Penn State Harrisburg pitcher Cassie Beckett. It was Schuylkill who drew first blood in the top of the first inning. Kristen Bronowich singled to start the game and Sorenson struggled to gain control of her pitches after that, as she walked in a run without Schuylkill getting another hit in the inning. It was Jessica Shuey (Lower Dauphin/Hummelstown, PA) who was able to pull the Lady Lions even with Schuylkill with a 4th inning RBI single. Schuylkill answered that run in the next half of the inning with two of their own. Trish Clemas singled to start the inning and Katie Fehr drove her home with an RBI double. After advancing to third on a throwing error, Shannon Sacco scored Clemas on a sac fly. It was after that when the Lady Lions bats really came to life and Sorenson pitches became unhittable. Emily Pae (Susquehanna Township/Harrisburg, PA)scored two runs with a triple to tie the game up, and Krystal Miranda (Bound Brook/Bound Brook, NJ) then scored her with a single to give the Lady Lions the lead. Kinsey Cunningham (West Potomac/Alexandria, VA)then had a RBI single to put the Lady Lions up 2. Miranda then had a single that scored two more runs late in the game to put Schuylkill out of the game. Sorenson had ten strikeouts in this game to help lead the Lady Lions to a much needed victory. The final score of game one was 8-3 in favor Penn State Harrisburg.

Sorenson started off game two just like she ended game one, by making quick work of Schuylkill´s first three hitters, sitting them down in order. Trish Clemas led off the second inning with a drive to right center which she was able to stretch into a triple. Shannon Sacco then scored her with a sac fly, giving her them the lead 1-0. In the top of the fourth inning Schuylkill did there damage, all with one swing of the bat. Angela Avolio singled to start the inning and so did Katie Fehr and Trish Clemas. Then Shannon Sacco stepped in and "sacc-ed" a bases clearing triple to right field, making the score 4-0 in favor of Schuylkill. The Blue and White tried to battle back into the game, as Cunningham blasted an RBI double to the fence to close the gap to 4-1. Two batters laterRachel Vettori (Palmyra/Palmyra, PA) singled in Cunningham to make it just a two run game. However the Lady Lions were unable to pull any closer and Schuylkill tacked on an insurance run to make the final score 2-5 Penn State Schuylkill.
