The college's softball team battled the elements and two opponents to split a pair of recent doubleheaders.

At Penn State Abington on Tuesday, April 3, the Lady Lions took the first game 6-3 behind an outstanding pitching performance by freshman Desiree Hipple (Elizabethtown). Hipple notched her first collegiate win, striking out two and scattering eight hits in the game. She received offensive support from senior outfielder Nicole Adams (Newport) who went two-for-three. In the second game, defensive woes contributed a 13-5 Harrisburg loss.

Despite less than springlike weather, the Harrisburg team traveled to Mont Alto on Friday, April 6, losing the first of two, 4-2, and then bouncing back to club the hosts 14-5 in the nightcap.

Hipple again earned the win on the mount and went two-for-four with two RBI in the nightcap. Senior outfielder Amanda Pearson (Lititz) and senior first baseman Julie VanBuskirk (York Springs) led the offensive attack in the win. Pearson went four-for-four with a triple and three RBI, while VanBuskirk went 4-for-four with four RBI. Other offensive contributors included: Krystal Miranda, 2-for-four with three RBI, grad student Michelle Baugh (College Station, TX) 2-for-3, and sophomore Melissa Yingling (Allentown) 2-for-three.

The Lady Lions, now 4-2 in conference play and 4-4 overall, return home to on Tuesday April 10, to face off again against Mont Alto in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
