Cross Country Records Fall at LVC's Dutchmen Invitational

LEBANON, Pa. – It was a record-breaking day for Penn State Harrisburg's cross country teams, as a pair of women's runners in Tatyana Gibson and Samantha Aromin shattered the 5K program record at Lebanon Valley's annual Dutchmen Invitational at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, Pa. on Saturday morning, Sept. 11.

 

In their debuts for the Blue & White, Gibson earned a sixth-place overall finish thanks to a record time of 19:41.5 in the 5K race. Finishing right behind her in seventh place was Aromin, whose jaunt of 19:43.6 is the second-quickest time in program history. Abagail Marquardt was the next Lion to cross the finish line with a time of 24:36.6, while Layla Germain and Starr Williams rounded out the Penn State Harrisburg scoring group.

 

As a team, the women secured an 11th-place finish out of 16 competing schools.

 

On the men's side, Jordan Payne was Penn State Harrisburg's top finisher, as his time of 28:56.9 was good enough for 58th place out of 211 runners. Paolo Aranoff recorded a time of 29:13.2 to cross the finish line in 70th, while Logan Cook was the third runner to earn a top-100 finish, as his effort of 29:52.9 secured 93rd place. Steven Painter and Zachary Malay comprised the rest of the team's scoring unit, while Nic Spohn and Matthew Mixell rounded out the Blue & White group of competitors.

 

Thanks to their efforts, the men's team earned a 10th-place finish out of 17 squads.

 

The Lions will look to build on their impressive start to the season when they to return to action at Lancaster Bible's Charger Invitational on Friday evening, Sept. 17.
