Record-Breaking Efforts Continue For T&F at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams got one last tuneup in at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational this weekend before shifting their focus to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships in two weeks.

A trio of program records were set, as the rookie duo of Tatyana Gibson (800m) and Sammi Aromin (3,000m) continued to shine on the women's side, while Ian Adams (3,000m) etched his name in the record book for the men.

Gibson won the 800m thanks to her effort of 2:20.11. The freshman bested 39 other runners, including more than 20 from Division I and II schools, to earn the victory. She shed more than a second off her previous record time and her marks currently ranks top-50 in the nation. Aromin secured a sixth-place finish in the 3,000m, topping seven runners of the Division I and II variety in the process. The freshman trimmed more than seven seconds off her previous program record in the event.

Adams earned a 10th-place finish in the 3,000m behind a program-record jaunt of 9:28.79. The senior's mark stands as a new program record by nearly three seconds. Elsewhere for the men, Alex White came home fifth out of 35 total competitors in the long jump thanks to his top leap of 6.78 meters. The senior bested more than 20 Division I and II jumpers in the event. Mohamed Tall was the third Penn State Harrisburg men's athlete to capture a top-10 finish, as his time of 7.35 seconds was strong enough to earn a share of eighth in the 60m finals.

Elsewhere on the women's side, Kyli Moon-Rumsey and Nofisat Aina each secured top-10 finishes in the finals of the 60m. Moon-Rumsey's dash of 8.57 seconds was good enough for ninth overall, while Aina came earned a 10th-place finish behind an effort of 8.62 seconds in the event.

With the regular-season portion of the team's schedule now behind them, the Lions will participate in postseason competition in their next outing, as Penn State Harrisburg will take part in the NJAC Indoor Championships on Monday afternoon, Feb. 21.
