Harrisburg Has Strong Showing At River Hawk Opener

Selinsgrove, Pa- The Penn State Harrisburg Men's Track and Field team got its season off on promising note with a strong showing at the River Hawk Opener. The Lions set several school records and saw multiple athletes' post times and distances that will qualify them for the CAC and ECAC Championships.

For the field events, Cameron Yon got his junior campaign under way recording the meets top weight throw with a distance of 14.37 meters.

Jared Alpaugh and Alex White posted the top two distances in the Men's Long Jump. Alpaugh's jump of 6.63 meters qualified him for the CAC and ECAC championships later this year. Jalil Clayton had good showing in the Men's High Jump finishing with a leap of 1.98 meters qualifying him for both championship.

In the track events, Uzoijile Ukattah, Derrick Young, and Josiah Owhe took the three top spots in the Men's 60 meter dash. Ukattah time of 7.10 seconds qualified him for the CAC and ECAC championships. Young, Clayton, and Owhe would also sweep the top three spots in the Men's 200 Meter Dash with Young posting the top time of 22.96 seconds.

Finally, in the Men's 60 meter hurdles Clayton and Young would dominate again finishing first and second. Clayton's time of 8.34 seconds shattered the school recorded and will seed him very highly in future tournaments. Young finished in time of 8.62 seconds which earned him a spot at both fall championships.

After the meet, Head Coach Danielle Lynch said, "My coaching staff and I are pleased with the results from our season opener. Both teams are off to great start with them breaking nine school records, nine CAC qualifiers, and eight ECAC qualifiers. Contributions were made from all event areas and we are gelling as a team.
